About the Author
Paul Fersen has been with the Orvis Company for sixteen years. He has been published in Gray’s Sporting Journal, Yankee Magazine, and Stratton Magazine. He is also the author of Rizzoli’s Great Fishing Lodges of North America. The Orvis Company began in 1856 as a fishing and hunting company and is now the nation’s oldest mail-order business.
"If you need to feast your imagination on angling destinations where the quality of fishing is matched by the quality of accommodations, dining, and fireside creature comforts, treat yourself to Orvis’s Great Fishing Lodges of North America: Fly Fishing's Finest Destinations (Rizzoli International Publications, hardbound, 240 pages, $50). This book stands on its artistic merits as a beautiful photographic album of fly-fishing in North America. But its main purpose is to identify 47 top-drawer fly-fishing venues, some at the edge of what’s left of wilderness and some tucked away remarkably close to what passes for civilization. You’ll find not only the obvious allure of Alaskan lodges but also of Chatham’s Bar Inn on Cape Cod, the Homestead in western Virginia, Blackberry Farm in the Great Smoky Mountains, and the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. The mountain west and southwest are well represented with more than 20 lodges, ranches, and resorts for all sorts of piscine quarry as well as a half dozen camps and lodges in Canada. Author Paul Fersen offers crisp, informative descriptions of each venue, including, of course, the species to be fished for in these stunning settings. Fersen’s book will considerably lengthen your bucket list." ~Gray's Sporting Journal
"Great Hunting Lodges of North America: Wingshooting's Finest Destinations (Rizzoli) is a lavishly illustrated look at the very best upland and waterfowl hunting destinations around... Even if you're merely an armchair adventurer who's never fired a shotgun the great outdoor photography is worth the price of admission in its own right." ~Luxist
"A really beautiful coffee table book... Great Hunting Lodges of North America – Wingshooting’s Finest Destinations is a collection of photographs of nature shots and hunting lodges beyond my comprehension. These lodges are almost as magnificent as the natural surroundings they are located in. Great Hunting Lodges of North America is produced by Orvis in conjunction with the Rizzoli publishing house. A companion book featuring the Great Fishing Lodges of North America also is available." ~Northwest Herald
