About This Book

A playful celebration of one of the most irreverent labels in fashion and design.

Fifty years after its founding by Elio Fiorucci in 1967, the iconic Milanese fashion label is entering a new phase of ingenuity. Published to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the label and the glittering unveiling of its new collection and retail stores, this book is a tribute to the history of a pioneering brand and a celebration of its colorful future.

Bright, colorful, sexy, and irreverent, Fiorucci came to define more than any other brand the fashion of the 1980s. Famous for scouring the world to bring vibrant elements of global underground culture into their designs, Fiorucci is responsible for defining the extravagant palette of the post-punk era, with neon and fluorescent tones, iridescent spandex and stretch denim, bringing the influences of pop art and pop culture to bear on fashion for the first time.

Now relaunched under the direction of impresarios Janie and Stephen Schaffer, Fiorucci continues to surprise, shock, and impress. In the spirit of Fiorucci itself, this delightful book is a bright and intoxicating tour through everything from the first leopard-print patterns to the new designs defining the future of this iconic brand.

Reviews

  • "The book, available Oct. 3, features the brand’s innovative and ever-changing logo designs and provocative ad campaigns alongside editorial contributions by Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola."
    Women's Wear Daily

"You’ll love this playful celebration of one of the most irreverent labels in fashion and design."
    The Society Diaries

". . . the iconic brand that was introduced to us by way of its New York store on East 59th Street is poised for a successful relaunch. We stake that claim, of course, amidst an ongoing obsession with fashion nostalgia, from its heyday in the '70s and '80s, to its fall into administration just shy of the '90s. With a foreword by Sofia Coppola that sets up 192 pages of pure fashion fun, the archival photographs, posters, and graphics sum up just how influential Fiorucci was. Of Coppola's memories of the brand, she concedes: 'My life has never been the same again.' "
    Refinery29.com

"In the forward to a new book—aptly called Fiorucci—celebrating the brand’s return, Sofia Coppola writes that “life has never been the same again” since she discovered the New York store as a pre-teen. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, the store was commonly described as “daytime Studio 54,” and the book, published by Rizzoli, is a celebration of that energy."
    Interview Magazine

". . . a Rizzoli book about Fiorucci’s history, out next month, with a foreword from Sofia Coppola, that includes interviews with Maripol, Terry Jones and Marc Jacobs."
