About this Book
Rizzoli, considered one of the most respected Italian trade names, is proud to announce the debut of its travel guide series for Italy. Unlike other conventional guides which only cover predictable tourist spots, the Rizzoli Guides are comprehensive in that they feature familiar favorites, but with an emphasis on intriguing cultural sites and commercial points of interest. This unique approach to Rome's treasures allows the traveler to experience and know the city as natives do, giving the sophisticated traveler a new perspective on the Eternal City. The volume on Rome begins the series and will be followed by Florence and Venice. Each of the nine chapters provide two detailed maps and entries on every major site in that section of the city. Walking tours–twenty-five in all–and special "focus" sections are the heart of the guide focusing on Rome off-the beaten-path. For instance, take an alternative itinerary through the Vatican's vast collections of art and antiquities or explore Nero's residence, the Domus Aurea. The guide also features over two hundred restaurants, cafes, hotels, and shops that are favored by Romans. An extensive "Best of" section begins the volume and includes everything from the best gelateria to the best swimming pools in the city.
This guide includes:
Twenty-five walking tours Eighteen detailed maps Three hundred cultural sites Two hundred restaurants, hotels, and stores
