Children's Books

This Is Washington DC

Sasek’s beloved 1960s children’s book exploring the U.S. capital city is now updated for the twenty-first century and available in a smaller format.

First published in 1969, in This is Washington DC super-tourist Sasek paints Washington red, white, and blue as he tours the nation’s capital. Stops include the Washington Monument (which commands a view of all the Federal buildings and most of the museums, monuments, and memorials), the White House, the city’s famous cherry blossoms, and the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park, the last residence of the world’s most famous ursine, Smokey the Bear! With bright pictures and snappy commentary, Sasek wittily captures all the fascinating things to do and see in a city of green parks, wide avenues, and classic white porticoes.

This is Washington DC is a facsimile edition of Sasek’s original title, now in a smaller trim size. His brilliant, vibrant illustrations have been meticulously preserved and remain true to his vision. With the passing of time, facts have been updated where applicable in the back of the book. The result is a treasure with an elegant, classic look and a delightful narrative that will charm both children and their parents, many of whom will remember the same book from their own childhood.
