Magical Rooms: Elements of Interior Design

Known for her witty and whimsical interiors with a bohemian flair, Brooklyn-based designer Fawn Galli shows us how to create magical rooms ourselves without breaking the bank.

Guided by her philosophy "A room should awaken the senses," Galli's goal is to cast a spell with her interior designs. Galli's interiors are celebrated for expressing the deepest desires of her clients through storytelling layers of textiles, colors, and furnishings. In Magical Rooms, Galli shares her collaborative approach to show us how we can transform our inspirations into good design.
Showcasing twelve very different interiors--from a Brooklyn townhouse to a Tribeca loft to a Greenwich Village apartment to an Upper West Side penthouse--Galli illustrates how she has achieved the finished look for each and breaks down her design principles into instructive teachings on scale, structure, balance, and color that readers can apply to their own interiors.
Through the lens of her favorite rooms, Galli shares her own inspirations and tried-and-true tips, revealing how she distills her influences into five elements that she uses, in every project: Nature (bring the outside in); Clashing (a no-rules attitude); Surrealism (subverting the rules of scale and composition); Bohemian (worldly, chic, and eccentric); and Sparkle (the influence of disco sprinkled like fairy dust). Full of inspiration, ideas, and real-world design tips, Magical Rooms empowers us to dream and to create our own chic and personally meaningful interiors.

Reviews

"True to its name, Galli’s first monograph offers up flashes and flourishes, enchantment and marvel." —BUSINESS OF HOME

"In Magical Rooms: Elements of Interior Design by Fawn Galli, the designer takes you on a visually enchanting journey through twelve of her most distinctive interiors and the years that shaped her wonderfully offbeat, perfect sense of style." —DOWNTOWN MAGAZINE

"In her just-released book, Magical Rooms: Elements of Interior Design, Fawn casts a spell, and by telling the stories behind her designs, coaxes the reader to open their eyes wider, to explore the options, and seek what touches their soul, whether it be music, paintings, nature, fables, or something more transient, such as a cloudy day." —IN COLLECT

"Fawn Galli lives and works by a philosophy she has coined: 'A room should awaken the senses.' She adheres to her proclamation in every project she designs. But that doesn’t mean that her interiors are outrageous; rather, they are livable, beautiful, memorable, inspiring. This book highlights twelve of her completed interiors, many of them in Brooklyn (where she lives and works) and elsewhere throughout New York City. Each of her projects incorporates five key dynamics: Nature, Clashing, Surrealism, Bohemian, Sparkle. Such ideals may not yet be on your design menu, but they will likely be after you see her work." —MILIEU MAGAZINE
