Dressing Up: Sandy Liang

Ways of dressing from New York–based designer Sandy Liang—a love letter to girlhood, femininity, and personal style.

More than a decade into her namesake fashion brand, Sandy Liang celebrates the quintessential girlish universe she has built—one that has captivated a devoted audience the world over. Her collections—featuring bows, Peter Pan collars, pleated skirts, ballet-inspired details, florals, and kawaii motifs—combine a downtown New York sensibility with references drawn from memory, nostalgia, and youth culture. While rooted in her upbringing in New York City, Liang’s work has cultivated a global following, with audiences in Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, and beyond.

This new compendium is for the girls. It gathers iconic ephemera from Liang’s world: offering an inspiring peek behind the curtain: a deep dive into the designer’s obsessions, childhood nostalgia, and reverence for the past. Newly published images from Liang’s archive—including her personal film and iPhone photos—are curated using an intimate lens, offering readers a look at a treasure trove of cherished inspirations, countless runway shots, endless variations of uniform dressing, and more—all of which will inspire readers to expand their own, unique, ways of getting dressed.
