Country House Modern: Weekend Escapes

An inspiring look at how visionary designers, artists, and tastemakers design their country homes, blending creativity, comfort, and the spirit of place.

This lavishly illustrated book invites the reader into the weekend escapes of creative city dwellers. Warm, richly atmospheric film photography of twenty characterful interiors showcases a variety of spaces—from tranquil countryside retreats to colorful small-town residences—each filled with attainable ideas for cultivating beauty at home.

The homes of these artists, designers, and stylists range from a converted hunting trailer nestled in woodland to a nineteenth-century farmhouse on an old country road, to a shingled house near the ocean. Shared by these distinctive properties is a common approach to decoration that centers on collections gradually accumulated, delights in the handmade, and values personal creativity and comfort above all.

More than a glimpse into beautiful spaces, this tome captures the enduring dialogue between city and country life. It reveals how city dwellers renowned for their creative vision carry their sensibilities into homes that nurture reflection, connection, and a slower pace of life. At its heart, it is also a book about possibility: how to create spaces that feel deeply personal and alive, not through perfection but through character—the layering of stories, objects, and textures that together make a truly welcoming country home.
