The widely followed digital archive has assembled a curated selection of photographs documenting rural life across the United States. The images focus on the vernacular architecture of small-town America—storefronts, post offices, hair salons, local fast-food chains and watering holes, churches, and ad hoc commercial structures—with an emphasis on atmosphere, regional specificity, and the subtle details that define place.

Zach Huelsing, an Alabama native, and Illinois-born Jon Lehman are the co-founders of Rural Indexing Project. Since 2010, they have assembled a growing photographic catalog of streetscapes collected from thousands of communities across the United States. Zach and Jon live in Chicago and bring mutual lifelong interests in art, architecture, and urbanism to their representation of the built environment.
