Madhappy: California Optimism

Embracing an optimistic ideology and approach to mental health, this sublime book brings together a decade of stories, imagery, and community of Madhappy.

In 2017 three best friends had an idea. Inspired by mental health struggles experienced by their friends and family, they wanted to create easy, wearable hoodies branded with uplifting messaging. They banded together and printed a run of hoodies with the phrases “Optimism” and “Log Off”. The hoodies were a hit, and Madhappy was born.

Madhappy now boasts multiple locations in LA, New York, and Tokyo with its cafe outpost, Pantry, tucked inside each store. A key to their success is their approach to storytelling and image making: elevated, sublime, and curious. Viral campaigns with stars including Gigi Hadid, 070 Shake, Lila Moss and collaborations with MARNI, Puma, Gap, Hello Kitty, and more.

This book gathers the best of Madhappy's carefully curated universe. Divided into five chapters that highlight the pillars of the brand: optimism, community, collaboration, experience, and influence. An introduction by Sarah Andelman, an early adopter of the brand, and an interview with architecture and design firm Playlab, Inc. shed light on the significance of Madhappy and its mission. Both inspiring and considered, this volume is perfect for fans of mindful, laid-back style.
