Pepe Mar: Dream House

Vibrantly colored, witty, and explosive mixed-media collages are celebrated in this first full monograph showcasing the work of contemporary artist Pepe Mar.

Inspired by his passions for clubbing, music, and fashion, Miami-based contemporary artist Pepe Mar creates vibrant, playful, and explosive mixed-media collages and sculptures that explore the excesses of contemporary consumer culture.

As his first monograph showcase, this vividly illustrated volume accompanies an exhibition at the Currier Museum in Manchester, New Hampshire. It situates Mar’s practice within the history of artists who engaged with ephemera and found objects, from European Surrealists such as Hannah Höch and Max Ernst to postwar personal archivists such as Jess, Betye Saar, and Joseph Cornell.

By exploring Mar’s satirical take on display traditions, the book examines the ways his material strategies parody museum practices through a theatrical synthesis of science fiction, queer culture, and fashion aesthetics.
