Bedside Companion to Britain

This newest anthology in the bestselling Bedside Companion series explores Britain and all things British, around the island and across the centuries.

This book includes extracts from across the spectrum of writing, from myth, fable and folklore to travel writing, children's stories and modern fiction: there are many roads to go down that lead to past, present or Peckham, told by poets, locals and explorers. Explore London with Kenny Imafidon and George Orwell, Scotland with Queen Victoria and Sir Walter Scott, and Wales with George Borrow.

Keep this book by your bedside and take a journey through the many landscapes and tales of Britain in this anthology, with one intriguing extract for every day ofthe year. Roam the rolling hills of the pastoral countryside with sheep and cows at your heels, or stalk the animated streets of any number of its industrial cities: from wassailing in the West Country to seeing the soaring mountains of the Lake District to Dickens's evocative descriptions of London fog, there are countless breathtaking scenes, folkloric traditions and modern expansions to explore from the comfort of your own home. It's the perfect literary companion for Brits and visitors alike.
