Religion - Sacred Places

Explorers of the Stones: Pilgrimage, Ceremony and Sacred Design

Across the Celtic landscapes lie ancient megalithic sites of rare beauty and living presence. Through evocative photography and storytelling, this journey reveals sacred places that restore the spirit, deepen awareness, and renew our connection to the natural world. An invitation to travel not as a tourist, but as a pilgrim.

Across the Celtic landscapes of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, and Brittany lie ancient megalithic sites of rare beauty, mythic history and living presence. Through evocative photography, storytelling and lore, this journey reveals sacred places that restore the spirit, deepen awareness, and renew our connection to the natural world.

Adventure to the very best 'pilgrimage worthy sites' highlighting enduring monuments created in the Neolithic and Bronze Age and located in areas of wild, natural beauty with spectacular views including:

  • Lios na Gráinsí (Grange Stone Circle) in Ireland
  • The Ring o’ Brodgar in Scotland
  • Castlerigg Druid’s Circle in England
  • Cronk Karran on the Isle of Man
  • An Hurlysi (The Hurlers Stone Circle) in Cornwall
  • Cairn Petit Mont in Brittany, France
  • And, more!

More than a travelogue, this book explores what makes certain landscapes feel alive. It shows how to recognize the subtle qualities – of place, pattern, and memory – that give sacred sites their vitality, and how these principles can be applied to create sacred spaces of insight, renewal, and regeneration anywhere.

At a time of ecological and cultural disconnection, this is also a call to care for and protect ancient places. Rooted in respect and listening, it offers a contemporary way of engaging with ancestral megaliths – and the timeless wisdom they hold for living more consciously on Earth.

About The Author

From her earliest memories, Grace Solkinson has been drawn to books: both reading and crafting stories of her own. A lifelong artist and adventurer, she has transformed her curiosity into a career as a designer and teacher, bringing creativity and discovery into every project. Her journeys have taken her across continents to stand among the silent stones of ancient megalithic sites, where history and magic intertwine. When she’s not traveling, teaching or writing, Grace can be found spending time in nature, gardening and raising animals, crafting, or questing through imaginative worlds in her favorite games.

Delvin Solkinson is a writer, community gardener, student and teacher from a tiny rainforest village in British Columbia, Canada where he teaches permaculture, writes articles, books and card decks with his wife Grace. Extensive study in permaculture design includes multiple diplomas and degrees involving travelling the world to learn with many great teachers. Delvin was the Senior Managing Editor for CoSM Journal of Visionary Culture for 15 years. Currently he co-facilitates a Group Diploma Adventure with Looby Macnamara through Permaculture Association and serves as Dean and Instructor at the Permaculture School of Pacific Rim College.
