Cars on Screen: Famous rides from film, television and video games

A celebration of 50 cars that have been popularized in film, television, and video games.

For years, cars have raced across screens big and small, capturing our collective imagination. Whether it’s James Bond’s gadgeted-up Aston Martin DB5 ejecting villains into the ether, the epic roar of Steve McQueen’s Ford Mustang GT 390 in Bullitt, or the somewhat grown-up appreciation of Top Gear’s Reasonably Priced Car, the Kia Cee’d, each car has its own automotive quirks and traits explored in the pages of this book.

Author and automotive journalist Tung Nguyen takes readers on a journey through the decades, writing about each of the fifty cars made famous (and infamous) in popular culture. Some are nostalgically lovable (the Volkswagen Beetle in The Love Bug), some are diabolical (the demonic Plymouth Fury in John Carpenter’s Christine), some hilarious (the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters) and some encourage very bad decisions (the Banshee from Grand Theft Auto). Featuring photography and illustrations for each of the cars, with a strong graphic design that will appeal to car lovers and gift buyers alike.

About The Author

Tung Nguyen’s love of all things automotive started with the 1980’s Transformers cartoon that caught and held his imagination—after all, one of the robots could transform into a Porsche 935 Turbo in Martini Racing colours. Later, he took much inspiration from the Gran Turismo and Need for Speed racing games on PlayStation. And so it is little wonder Tung’s love of Autobots would manifest itself in an automotive writing career. Now, more than fifteen years into his Australian automotive journalism career, Tung has driven every major new model of car and travelled the world multiple times over to get behind the wheel of cars of all shapes and sizes.
