Passionate about aeronautics, engineers Jérôme Giacomoni and Matthieu Gobbi founded Aérophile in 1993, which reinstalled the first tethered balloon in the skies above Paris in a century. Five years later, the company celebrated its first flight to an altitude of 980 ft. (300 m). In 2025, Aérophile was awarded the Montgolfier award and the International Influence award of the Radio Classique 2025 Business Awards.
