For more than a decade, celebrated photographer and documentary filmmaker Bruno Aveillan has traveled around the globe creating iconic campaigns for the world’s leading international brands. On his many trips, he has always been accompanied by his faithful companion: a Louis Vuitton Alzer 75 suitcase. Over the years, he has photographed this simple item of luggage in a multitude of situations and settings—from the ruins of an abandoned village in Argentina to inhospitable volcanic landscapes in the far reaches of Iceland, or from the concrete architecture and neon lights of a bustling cityscape to a beach packed with sunbathers and a curious raccoon—transforming it into an enigmatic object that is at times the focal point of the image, and sometimes barely visible in the shot. Captured in ever changing settings, the suitcase remains an invariable constant in a world that is in constant evolution.

To mark the 130th anniversary of the Louis Vuitton monogram, the photographer reveals this unique and highly personal photographic series featuring his beloved suitcase for the first time. Striking a delicate balance between composition and spontaneity, the 350 photographs showcased in this volume combine an artistic aesthetic with a documentary approach, taking readers on a journey that is by turns poetic, amusing, moving—and always inspiring.
